The Ombudsman, ms. Jurima Bryson, announced that, following the findings of her report, she initiated contact with utility companies and emphasized that currently none of them have a clear and accessible complaints system in place.

The Ombudsman sent a copy of the report, including its recommendations, to all the utility companies. According to the law, each institution is obliged to inform the Ombudsman, within a pre-established period, how it will implement the given recommendations.

WEB contacted the Ombudsman to discuss the recommendations. During a meeting with WEB, the Ombudsman provided further explanation of the report, the standards of proper conduct, and the minimum requirements for a complaints system that ensures good service to the community.

The Ombudsman pointed out that WEB is a crucial institution for Aruba, considering its monopoly position as well as the fact that the utility company supplies Aruba with water. Water is a necessity for life and essential for survival.

In this context, the Ombudsman also emphasizes the Court ruling that states that it is not permitted to cut off water in households where minor children reside.

The Ombudsman will continue to monitor the process and hopes that the necessary steps will be taken to improve services provided to the community.
