Ms. J. Bryson, LL.M.
The first Ombudsman of Aruba
As of October 1, 2024, Ms. J. (Jurima) Bryson has been sworn in as the first Ombudsman of Aruba. Ms. Bryson began her career as a lawyer in 2007 and has led her own law office since 2013. Her extensive legal knowledge and experience, partly gained in the notary field and advocacy, will serve her excellently in her role as Ombudsman.
Ms. J. Bryson, LLM is of Aruban descent and completed secondary school in Aruba, after which she moved to the Netherlands to continue her university studies. She earned her propaedeutic degree in law and her master’s degree in Notarial law at Leiden University. During her studies, she actively contributed as a volunteer at the Hague Legal Aid Centre.
She has held various board positions, such as treasurer of the Aruba Bar Association. She has also been a member of several committees. Until her appointment as Ombudsman of Aruba, she was active as a member of the Disciplinary Committee of the Bar Association.
As the first Ombudsman of Aruba, she has the responsibility to shape the new Ombudsman institution. She will carry out this task with great dedication, aiming to secure and promote the core principles of good governance, transparency, and accountability.
